S. Krushelnytska’s Lviv National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet

The Opera house is built in classic tradition with the architectural forms and details of Renascence and Baroque or so-called Vienna pseudo-Renascence. The theatre is very decorated and embossed with triangle front made by sculpture Antoni Popel. Allegoric figures made by sculpture Petro Vijtovych are standing above the front. The current repertoire for present time consists of 40 plays.

Lviv Philharmonic is situated in a lovely secession building, which was built in 1907 for the Musical society of Galicia. These are unique premises with perfect acoustics and all necessary devices. It is no coincidence that “philharmonic society” from Greek is translated like a love to the harmony.
The orchestra started to function as a regular philharmonic since 1933. The Soviet authorities “created” by its decree a symphony orchestra by Lviv Regional Radio committee in December 1939. The conductors were Isak Pain and Mykola Kolessa. The orchestra was reestablished after the War. The Symphony Orchestra of Lviv philharmonic society has got an academic title in 2006. The main activity of Lviv philharmonic society is to conduct the symphonic, chamber, jazz, popular concerts; to organize the musical festivals, literature and art activities, meetings and exhibitions.

Organ and Chamber Music Hall is situated in former Roman Catholic Church of Mary Magdalene (18th century). In 1932 new organ made in Czech Republic by "Rieger-Kloss" firm was installed there. It is the biggest organ on the territory of Ukraine. In Soviet times the church was used as a sport hall and in 1960-ies it was  adapted to be an organ hall of Lviv Mykola Lysenko Conservatory. Now it is used for different concerts.

Lviv Theater "Voskresinnya" was founded in 1990 by the director Yaroslav Fedoryshyn and team of young actors from all over Ukraine.

Les Kurbas's Lviv Academic Theatre

The theatre was created by Volodymr Kuchynskyj and a group of young artists who felt the same necessity as prominent Ukrainian director Les Kurbas “…to deepen inside ourselves… to say something new; only because of that reason to create a theatre”. The critics view this group as a unique theatrical phenomenon, because it has created its own methodical school and combined a diverse stage practice with the process of cognition Human beings.

The theatre works since 1946 and as such type of establishment is one of most visited in the region. Every year almost 200 000 spectators come to see the performances.

The First Ukrainian Theater for Children and Youth

The building of the theatre was built in 1939 for Jewish theatre. Theater for Young Viewer, founded in 1920 in Kharkiv, moved to Lviv in 1944 and started to show the performances. The building itself is also very interesting, because it helps to create cosy and magical atmosphere for those who came for fairy-tale.
